This week in class we were divided into 6 groups. Each group were given one topic in Science and given a whole lesson plan to complete.  My lesson plan assignment goes over the 5 E’s. Engage Explore Explain Apply Share Reflect Elaborate In the lesson plan we were presented with videos and articles to help us understand where the planets are in relation to each other, and interesting/unique facts about the planets. What I liked about activity: Interactive and a lot of activities to learn from It gave us a chance for discovery We got to explore the Solar System Directions for activities were clear and understandable. Vegetative Organs and Plant Tissue! Today group 2 started their lesson plan on vegetative organs and plant tissue!  Since day one is supposed to be direct instruction, this group focused mostly on a note packet. This packet was very short, colorful and fun looking so that the students didn't feel intimidated or shut down and not want to do it. Every page of the packet was a different part of the plant and they focused on one at a time. The transition between each page and each part made sense and was smooth because it all came together in the end. The parts of a plant are a very important part of science because we see plants everywhere. Plant Classification Day 2 Although we had some technical difficulties, we made it out of out day 2 of plant classification. This lesson wasn't as straight forward as the indirect, and much harder to come up with an activity to do. But we created a fun activity for out inquiry.   During today's class lesson we had f erns, coniferous trees, flowering plants, and mosses and liverworts at the different stations. We created a "What am I?" packet, and our students had to guess which plants were which. We also incorporated articles on every plant for the students to look at and use their own thinking to find new information about the plants that we didn't necessarily teach.  We had more then enough time at each station for every plant and this gave the groups a chance to really think and read through the articles and discuss it.  Overall, I think our indirect lesson very well, despite what some people said. ...

It was our groups first day of presenting Plant Classification! Overall, it went well went well. We taught the class back plant classification, vascular and non vascular plants, and the four different plant groups  which are broken down:  1) Mosses and liverworts - plants that do not have roots. 2 ) Ferns - plants that have roots and produce spores. 3) Coniferous trees- plants that have roots as well as needle shaped leaves and cones. 4) Flowering plants- plants that have flowers and root systems that produce seeds I think my peer group members did a good job, aside from some nervous jitters.  We used the method of a slideshow, with an assistance of a note packet that followed along with the information on each slide, then we did a word bank independent practice. 😊Meet Me! My name is Melissa Macagne and I'm currently a Junior at Mount Saint Mary College. I am a History major seeking my dual certification in Early Childhood with special education. I am currently engaged to a United States Marine, that I've been dating for 4 years (PICTURE BELOW) . I am a commuter. I love to go to the beach, read, and watch Harry Potter!  I am looking forward to all the fun new experiences that I will have whiling learning how to beach teach science with technology!

Our Getting to Know You Activity  My group (4) created a Get to Know You Activity where we placed questions on a flower petals and had the Students pick thier peddles, in the peddles were the questions.  Some of the questions were "What is your favorite subject?" "What do you like about Science?" "What don't you like about Science?" "Do you have any pets?" and other questions that seemed to spark the students interest was "What's your favorite superhero?" The students mostly said either Iron Man or Captain America. Here's a picture of our Getting to Know You Activity just in case anyone wants to try it with thier students. It's a very easy activity to make and your students will LOVE it, especially the girls!   P.s. If anyone does do this activity it's better if you use sticky tack to stick the peddles on the middle. Plant Reproductive Parts Group 3: Today, group 3 went, thier lesson as on the reproductive parts of a plant. The teachers in the group did a great job giving direct instruction and presenting the information.  They mentioned t he stigma, ovary, pistil, receptacle and stamen. These are the main parts of the plant reproduction.  When talking about plants reproducing, most just assume pollination is the main source. Although this is true, there are many different parts to this process. Every part of the plant is involved, down to the roots, stems, and leaves. Seeds are a very important part to the plant reproductive process. When seeds spread, more and more plants grow. Overall, group three did very well! Good Job!
