Inquiry-based learning is a form of active learning that starts by posing questions, problems or scenarios—rather than simply presenting established facts or portraying a smooth path to knowledge.
They are both needed in an effective classroom!

I agree both direct and inquiry instruction are needed and effective in the classroom. Some students learn better through direct instruction. Others learn best with hands on experience in inquiry instruction.
